If I Knew You

If we met -

at some potluck,

and talked

and laughed

and walked.

If we sang,

like cockatoos gone wild,

in chorus,

twice, three times,

and again,

for good measure.

If I knew,

just how much

you like chocolate,

and how much you

hate it milky.

If we talked,

about green,

and silver, the metal,

and bicycles

in the sun.

If I made a joke,

that you thought was funny,

and swelled, with mirth,

every time

you thought of it

If I knew you,

and you knew me too,

I’d click my heels,

lift my hat and

trip over myself.

I’d dance with you too.
