Another Life

She walks silently past,

Unseeing, unthinking

Her every muscle screaming in agony

Her brain – a weight in her head

Stars above her, twinkle softly,

Unseeing, unthinking

Shine down upon the earth,

Shine on infinitely

Lights streak by, cars racing,

Unseeing, unthinking

Notice the ragged beggar,

Notice how she weeps

The lamp, a solitary light

Unseeing, unthinking

Stays on with her,

Stays a stolid companion

The ground, broken, charred

Unseeing, unthinking

Slips silently past,

Slips into oblivion

Her tormentor runs

Unseeing, unthinking

Past the red light,

Past the trembling victim

Policemen stand around,

Unseeing, unthinking

Their batons dangling off their belt,

Their minds blissfully unaware

She stumbles up the steps,

Unseeing, unthinking

She’s hugged by a priest,

She’s welcomed home

Demons haunt her thoughts,

Unseeing, unthinking

Blue eyes burn red

Blue eyes, blonde hair

Accused of sin,

Unseeing, unthinking,

She is thrown out,

She is abandoned.

She walks silently past,

Unseeing, unthinking

Another place, another home,

Another life

To the numerous women persecuted everyday in our world, our paradise.
